Suryakumar Yadav Achieves Milestone in IPL

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] June 2: Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians (MI) has made history by becoming the first non-opener to score over 700 runs in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

He surpassed the previous record held by AB de Villiers, who scored 687 runs in 2016 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), marking the highest runs by a non-opener in IPL history.

This remarkable achievement came after he contributed a crucial 44 runs off 26 balls during Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Prior to this match, Suryakumar needed just 15 runs to break de Villiers' record. He now boasts a total of 717 runs in 16 innings, maintaining an impressive average of over 60 and a strike rate of 167.83.

His performance includes five half-centuries, with a highest score of 73 not out. Suryakumar is also in contention to overtake Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans, who currently leads the season with 759 runs in 15 matches.

If MI secures a victory against PBKS and advances to the final, Suryakumar will have another chance to break Sudharsan's record, as no other MI player has exceeded 650 runs in a single IPL season.
