All-rounder has returned to England's national side after a long time. The aggressive player has been utilized by England in a different role in the current setup under Harry Brook. A natural middle-order batter has been asked to finish the games for England in ODIs. Jacks has batted well so far, with two different types of knocks as a finisher against the West Indies.
Speaking about the difference between batting in ODIs and T20s, Jacks claimed there is a lot of time to accelerate in ODIs, which is not the case in T20Is. He felt it a luxury to have while batting in ODIs, something which is not available for an individual in T20Is, where the need is to hit the ball from the word go.
"I think watching 50-over cricket and thinking about it over the last year or two, we all realise there's so much time. Coming from T20, that's not something you always have the luxury of," Jacks said. In the first and second ODIs against WI, the star batter has scored 39(24) and 49(58), respectively.
While Jacks had to just slog nearly everything in the first ODI, he had to play out some overs, as he had a lot of time left in the second ODI. Jacks opened up on the same and claimed that a lot of time was left in the game, and his confidence in chasing down the total after getting set. The right-handed batter believed in taking the game as deep as possible.
"Even going in the other day [first ODI], I came in during the 41st over - there was still so much time to go. That was on my mind [in the second ODI], and that was what we spoke about… even at 7-and-a-half, 8-an-over it got up to, there was no urgency. We know we can chase that with ease. It was just about staying calm, staying in control, and taking it as deep as possible," Jacks added.
Now, I feel comfortable in myself: JacksThe right-handed batter last played for England in November 2024 before failing to make it to England's squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. He felt the time away from the game helped him reset himself as a cricketer.
"I've come into it with a really fresh mindset, which has helped. Having that break… obviously, I'd have loved to play every game, but that's life. And I think it's allowed me to reset," Jacks added.
Jacks recalled at his first few days as an English cricketer and claimed he was not performing as well as he would have liked, as his focus was just on enjoying his game. The star batter claimed that he now understands his role better, which has helped him to be a better version of himself.
"I think my first time in the team, I was just loving playing for England, and probably not performing how I wanted. I was 'over-trying' to get the results I wanted, whereas now I feel comfortable in myself, in the role, and I think that's really helped."
