New Delhi: Elon Musks X platform has launched a new messaging feature called XChat. With this feature users will have options for end-to-end encryption auto-deleted messages and sending any type of files. This feature is currently available in beta version. Elon Musk announced this feature in a post on Sunday June 1. The post reads: “All new XChat is rolling out with encryption vanishing messages and the ability to send any kind of file. Also audio/video calling. This is built on Rust with (Bitcoin style) encryption whole new architecture. You can do audio/video calls without a phone number across all platforms. XChat is currently in the testing phase. According to reports from TechCrunch XChat is in the testing phase and some testing is being conducted on a select group of people. However the company has not yet provided information on when it will be released for the general public. The X platform launched its encrypted messaging service in 2023 and at that time the service was initiated for a limited number of people. Competition with WhatsApp XChat includes all the features found in the instant messaging app WhatsApp. However WhatsApp requires users to log in with a mobile number whereas XChat will not require a mobile number to be connected. End to end encryption End-to-End Encryption is a security system aimed at securely delivering data between the sender and the receiver. No one in between can decode it. For example when you send a message to someone that message gets encrypted on your device. It is then transferred using the internet. Upon reaching the receiver the message gets decrypted. This feature is found in messaging apps like WhatsApp Signal and Telegram.
