Political Concerns Raised by Salman Khurshid

On Monday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed his worries regarding the political divide in India, especially as a multi-party delegation embarks on an international trip to showcase the nation's united stance against terrorism. The senior politician and former foreign minister is currently part of an all-party parliamentary group led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, visiting East Asia. In a post on X, Khurshid lamented that while on a mission against terrorism, it is unfortunate that people at home are preoccupied with political loyalties. He questioned, 'Is it so difficult to be patriotic?'

Following this, Khurshid made significant remarks during a media interaction. He addressed criticisms regarding his participation in a delegation that includes BJP members, stating, 'What are we doing here? We are doing what is necessary for the country. Regardless of party affiliation, it is essential to have a unified voice in support of the nation, and that is what we are doing here. When I ask if being patriotic is so hard, it is a question for those who tweet and make comments that I believe are not very encouraging for doing something for the country.'

He further clarified that accusations of him supporting certain factions while opposing the government are misplaced. 'Am I here to oppose the Indian government? If that were the case, I would have stayed home. I am here to speak for India, and anyone who speaks for India in any manner is supported by us. This is just a short trip of 10-12 days, after which we will return home to our responsibilities. But my primary focus here is India, and only India.'
