The award-winning miniseries 'Unorthodox' made waves in March 2020, tracing the poignant tale of a Hasidic Jewish woman's escape from an arranged marriage. At the heart of this gripping four-part saga is Esty Shapiro (portrayed by Shira Haas), who flees her ultra-Orthodox community in Brooklyn for the freedom of Berlin, seeking refuge with her distant mother.

Yet her past refuses to let her go without a fight; upon discovering Esty's pregnancy, her husband sets out on a desperate journey to Berlin to compel her return to their union. Based on Deborah Feldman's explosive 2012 memoir 'Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots', the critically-acclaimed series scooped an Emmy Award for both its remarkable writing and direction in the Limited Series categories.

Viewers have been captivated by 'Unorthodox', binging the intense drama in mere hours, exemplified by a glowing review.

One awe-struck viewer shared: "Amazing! Simply incredible. The acting was impeccable, and did so much to bring me, the viewer into a state of total Immersion in 2 radically different worlds. The narrative is powerful and well paced. No moment feels too long or too fast, and ever plot point felt tense and impactful as a result. Above all, the world was so carefully and accurately constructed. It could almost have been a documentary, given how well made and authentic it is."

A second viewer praised: "Mesmerising performance by Shira Haas......best bit of acting I have seen in a very long time. Non judgemental portrayal of the Orthodox Jewish community giving a good insight into the culture which for some is a life line but for some it does not suit.

"Great acting all round but Shira Haas is an extremely fine actress making the storyline both compelling and believable along with other great performances from the co stars. We need an second season please."

Meanwhile, a third viewer wrote: "Started to watch out of curiosity, ended up binge watching the whole series over a few hours. The acting, production, impressive detailing, and everything else, held my attention to the very end. Congratulations and thanks to all concerned for bringing 'Unorthodox' to the screen."

They added: "Also enjoyed watching the companion programme about its making, and the 'whys and and wherefores' of the whole series. Allowed me to peek through a window on to a community I had known little about."

Unorthodox is streaming on Netflix now.
