Shreyas Iyer is continuously climbing the ladder of success under his captaincy. He is close to winning the second consecutive IPL trophy as captain. Shreyas says that his work will be completed after winning the final against RCB. A day before the final, Shreyas said that his work was still incomplete. Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to the title last year, scored an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls against Mumbai Indians on Sunday to take Punjab Kings to the final for the first time in 11 years. Punjab will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final for the title.

Shreyas Iyer has scored 603 runs in 16 innings including six half-centuries at a strike rate of around 176 in this season of IPL. Iyer said in the press conference before the final, 'Winning the match for the team is the best feeling. And in pressure situations, I would call it my best innings. I try to play according to the situation. And I do not think too far ahead. If I am chasing a target, I look at the required run rate and how the wicket is and which bowlers are to come.'

He said, 'Based on this, I make a strategy and try to take the match till the end.' Iyer said that the work was still half done, so he did not feel like celebrating on Sunday. He said, 'The work is not done yet. We have to play another match tomorrow. I think that the work is still incomplete. I have to play again tomorrow.' He said that the contribution of the other players in the team helped him play freely. He said, 'The captain's job is to get the best performance from his players. We started the tournament well and maintained that rhythm. Everyone contributed to this.'

Praising coach Ricky Ponting, Shreyas Iyer said, 'He is a great coach and he treats everyone equally. This increases the morale of every player. Be it junior or senior. This gives them the freedom to play freely.'
