The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Even before the final match, its craze is speaking in the heads of the fans. This is the reason why everyone wants to go to Ahmedabad to witness this great match. Fans are now paying the price of this passion in their pockets because the price of flight tickets has reached the sky. The biggest increase in fares has happened on the Kolkata-Ahmedabad route. Here the return ticket fare has doubled. According to travel websites, all the seats in the economy class are full and now only expensive premium tickets are left.
There are only five direct flights daily on the Kolkata-Ahmedabad route, and in such a situation the demand for tickets has skyrocketed. There has been an increase in the demand for flight tickets to Ahmedabad from other cities as well. Apart from air tickets, the prices of hotel rooms have also increased by 10%. Travel agents say that hotels in Ahmedabad and Mumbai are getting full and there has been a 40% increase in online searches for Ahmedabad.
₹13 thousand tickets now sold for ₹30 thousand
While usually a round trip ticket from Kolkata to Ahmedabad costs between ₹12,000 and ₹13,000, the same ticket has now reached ₹30,000. 27-year-old Sonal Kapoor from Park Street, who is a market research professional, says, "I watch every match at Eden Gardens every year. Irrespective of which team's final it is, I go to watch it. This time Virat Kohli is in the final, so I must go to Ahmedabad. I will roam there for two days and will come back when the return ticket is cheaper."
Earlier the final was to be held in Kolkata.
The IPL final was earlier supposed to be held in Kolkata. The people of Kolkata are still unhappy with the final being shifted from Eden Gardens. The match was shifted due to the possibility of rain, but this decision has also heated politics. BJP cited security reasons as the reason, while TMC alleged that the stadium built in the name of the Prime Minister was given priority.
It is worth noting that after KKR became the champion last year, Kolkata got the hosting rights of the final and qualifier-2 this year. The Bengal Cricket Association had told BCCI with the data of the Meteorological Department that the weather in Kolkata would be good in June, but the board did not listen.
