Delhi Rain Alert: The weather has changed across the country. This time, due to the activation of western disturbances one after the other, it is raining continuously. Even in the month of May, there is no humidity and hot wind. The weather remains pleasant. Recently, there has been heavy rain with strong winds in different states. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has given information about how much and for how long it will rain in the capital. Let’s know –
The weather in the country’s capital Delhi remains cool. Since the western disturbance has been active for quite some time, heavy rains have been continuing in many states of North India. IMD has told in its report that this year, even before the arrival of monsoon in Delhi, the rains have broken all records. In the month of May alone, 185.9 mm of rain has been recorded, which is the highest rainfall recorded in the last 120 years. The weather here (Mausam Update) is such that Delhiites are enjoying the monsoon in Vaishakh itself. During this time, even if it is hot for 2 to 3 days, then the storm and gusts of rain are making the weather pleasant.
Now the question arises that what is the reason behind unseasonal rain in the month of May. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given the reasons behind this unusual weather phenomenon. Let’s know –
Delhi (Delhi IMD Rain Alert) normally receives an average of 55.5 mm of rain in May, but this year 185.9 mm of rain has been recorded in May. This much rain was last recorded in 1901. After this, Delhi NCR witnessed strong winds, thunderstorms, and torrential rains in early June.
This is the reason why it is raining-
Scientists of the Meteorological Department (Weather Update) said that the remnants of a deep low pressure area formed in the northwest of the Bay of Bengal, which moved towards Meghalaya and Assam, have caused torrential rains in northwest India. This low pressure area intensified monsoon winds in the northwestern states including Delhi (Delhi Mausam), due to which there has been unusually heavy rain here. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD Weather), this weather system remained active till the end of May and its effect will be seen in the first week of June as well. Due to this, winds will blow at a speed of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour in Delhi. Along with this, light to moderate rain may also occur.
According to the IMD report, the capital Delhi (Delhi Mausam update) recorded 228.1 mm of rain in a single day on 28 June 2024, which was the highest in June since 1936. Similar seasonal patterns were observed in May and June this year, which has further intensified the rain.
According to the Meteorological Department (IMD Mausam Update), due to the increase in the sea surface temperature in the Bay of Bengal, the flow of moist winds has increased, which is rapidly moving towards North-West India. Due to this, there has been an increase in pre-monsoon rains.
How long will it rain?
Monsoon usually begins in Delhi on June 27. This year, Delhi is experiencing monsoon-like rains in May itself. The Meteorological Department has estimated that the 2025 monsoon may bring 114 percent more rain than usual in the Delhi-Haryana-Chandigarh region, which further reinforces this year’s unusual seasonal pattern.
The reason for the heavy rainfall in the state is the early arrival of monsoon. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD Mausam Update), this year the monsoon reached Kerala on May 24 and Mumbai on May 26, which is one to two weeks earlier than normal. This rapid progress reached Delhi, which increased heavy rains in late May and early June.
IMD has issued an alert and said that there is a possibility of torrential rain in Delhi (Delhi Weather) even in June 2025. In a nowcast released on May 31, IMD said that Delhi-NCR will receive light to moderate rain on June 1 and 2 and strong winds of 50 to 70 kmph will blow. It has predicted heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms in Delhi in the coming days.
