South superstar Kamal Haasan has been engulfed in controversies over the statement made about the Kannada language during the promotion of his upcoming film Thg Life. He claimed that the Kannada language originated from Tamil, which saw a sharp response in Karnataka. Due to the protest, the release of the film has started to threaten and the case caught so much that Kamal Haasan had to take shelter of the court.
During the hearing on this dispute, the Karnataka High Court strongly criticized Kamal Haasan and said that a public person should not make such statements that hurt the sentiments of the public. The court made it clear that if the people of Karnataka are demanding apology from you, then what is the problem in apologizing?
Petition in High Court, demand for police security
Filmmaker Rajkamal Films filed a petition in the High Court demanding police protection for the release of the film Thg Life in Karnataka. During the hearing, the court took Kamal Haasan’s statement seriously, in which he said that Kannada language has come out of Tamil. Kannada organizations and film Chamber had expressed tremendous opposition to this comment.
Not a historian, so why such a statement?: Court
The High Court asked Kamal Haasan sharp questions- on what basis did you give this statement? Are you a historian or a linguist? When this country is divided on linguistic basis, how can a public person give such a disputed statement? The court said that no matter what you are, no one has the right to hurt someone’s feelings.
Kamal Haasan gave clarification, not forgiveness
Kamal Haasan’s lawyer told the court that he has sent a letter to the film Chamber and clarified his side. On this, the court said that he has not apologized in the letter, only clarified. The lawyer also said that Kamal Haasan does not want to release Thg Life in Karnataka at the moment and will take a decision on this after talking to the film Chamber. After this, the court has fixed the next date of hearing on 10 June.
Thg life will be released on 5 June
In the film Thg Life directed by Mani Ratnam, Trisha Krishnan and Silambasan TR are also in important roles with Kamal Haasan. The film is going to be released worldwide on 5 June, but there is still confusion about its release in Karnataka.
