Seoul. Liberal Democratic Party candidate Lee J-Mung on Tuesday won a clear victory in South Korea and the special presidential election after long political instability and martial law achieved the distinction of becoming the new President of the country.

Counting of votes was completed around 3:30 am on Wednesday morning (local time) and election officials declared that Li J-Mung was the winner with more than 49 percent of the votes. At the same time, his main orthodox rival Kim Moon-Sun-41.6 percent votes. There was a difference of more than 2.5 million votes between the two.

Talking to reporters after the victory, the newly elected President Lee J-Mung said, “I will try my best to live up to the expectations of the countrymen. It is a new start and now we will move forward with hope. We are committed to ensure the unity, economic revival and peace in the Korean Peninsula.”

Lee also clarified that his administration would prioritize South Korea’s strategic partnership with the US, as well as adopt the path of dialogue and peace with North Korea.

Earlier, the main conjervative rival Kim Moon Suu admitted to the press conference on Wednesday morning, saying that he politely accepts the decision of the public. He also congratulated Lee J-Mung for this victory and hoped that the new government would take the country in a better direction.

It is noteworthy that this election was held after an extraordinary political developments, when former President Yu Suk Yeol made a political crisis in the country by imposing Emergency six months ago. Due to this, he was removed from the post under impeachment and premature elections were held in the country.
