Bayern Munich reportedly consider it “insane” that Bayer Leverkusen are demanding €5 million for Jonathan Tah’s early release.

Bayern Munich have already confirmed the signing of Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, whether the centre-back will be able to represent his new club at the Club World Cup remains uncertain.

According to Munich-based outlet TZ, Leverkusen are demanding €5 million to release Tah early from his contract, which runs until June 30.

Bayern, however, are only willing to pay between €200,000 and €400,000, with the club’s management reportedly describing Leverkusen’s demand as “insane”.

The Club World Cup kicks off on June 15 in the United States. If no agreement is reached, Tah will only be eligible to play from July 1, meaning he could join the squad at the quarterfinal stage at the earliest.

Having Tah available from the outset would be a major boost for Bayern amid their current defensive crisis

Minjae Kim is expected to miss the tournament due to ongoing Achilles issues, Hiroki Ito is sidelined with a metatarsal fracture, Dayot Upamecano is still recovering from knee surgery, and Eric Dier is moving to AS Monaco.
