Three Indian brands are turning natural waste into beautiful, sustainable products that support rural communities.
From farm to fabulous—these eco-friendly Indian brands are redefining sustainability with style and soul.
This World Environment Day, we spotlight three Indian initiatives transforming natural waste into everyday essentials. Born from grassroots experiences in rural India, these ventures champion sustainability through local materials, traditional craftsmanship, and innovative thinking proving that thoughtful, eco-friendly choices can breathe new life into nature’s leftovers while supporting communities.
Skateboarding
Strawcture combats stubble burning by turning 96% of agricultural waste into sustainable AgriBioPanels. Inspired by Shriti Pandey’s SBI Youth for India Fellowship in Pandhana, Madhya Pradesh, her interactions with over 100 farmers revealed that a market-driven, community-based approach is essential for lasting environmental change.
The panels come in three grades and range in thickness from 8mm to 35mm.
AgriBioPanels are termite- and moisture-resistant with strong screw-holding capacity, making them perfect for storage and furniture.
These panels can be used for drywall applications along with suitable framing based on the structural requirements of the building.
9mm or 12mm panels are designed for suspended ceilings; they are moisture-proof and dimensionally stable.
Baansuli
Baansuli (Bamboo Artisan Socio-Economic Upliftment Initiative) combines sustainable bamboo with contemporary design, offering handcrafted jewellery, décor, and rakhis made by tribal artisans in Dangs, Gujarat. Founded by lawyer-turned-entrepreneur Saloni Sacheti during her SBI YFI Fellowship, it promotes bamboo use and creates local livelihoods, reducing rural migration.
