timesnownews | June 4, 2025 2:55 PM CST

The flood situation in the northeastern states continues to remain grim as rising water levels make the rescue operation difficult. The District Magistrate of Mangan in Sikkim said that they have rescued 1,600 tourists from Lachung, and around 130 more are still stranded in Lachung. He said that efforts are being made to evacuate them.
Landslides in many areas are making it difficult to reach those stranded. The teams of NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and BRO are working together to make a route through the tough terrain of Lanchen.
"There is no connectivity, but we are trying our best. There are many places in Mangan which are affected badly. Efforts are being made to get things back to normal," he told Times Now.
People are being airlifted through choppers. At about 6:00 am on Wednesday, nine NDRF personnel departed for Chaten in MI 17, while MI 39 returned to Pakyong Airport due to bad weather and poor visibility. The said chopper returned to Pakyong Airport due to inclement weather at Mangan and Chaten.
