Nude Desk. The Government of India has taken important steps to spread banking services to every citizen of the country. After this decision of the government, now banking services will also be able to take rural areas who have been away from them. A scheme has been launched by the government to easily deliver banking services for citizens.
Under this scheme, banking facilities will be provided to all citizens within 3 kilometers. In this initiative of the government, the Indian Postal Department will play an important role from 1.5 lakhs. According to NABARD’s All India Rural Financial Inclusion Survey 2021-22, which was released in October 2024, about 34 percent of rural families still do not have access to banking services. The government had earlier succeeded in providing banking services within a radius of 5 km, in which 99.90 percent of the villages were covered.
Now the government wants to reduce this distance to 3 kilometers. Now in rural areas, far-flung areas will also be associated with banking services. Under this scheme brought by the government, panchayats and villages will be identified and banks will be instructed to start their services in these areas.
Postal department employees will provide banking services at public places like Panchayat buildings with EPOs machines and cash. This model will work in coordination with weekly programs such as polio vaccination and awareness campaigns. This will increase access to digital transactions and government schemes such as DBT, PM Kisan and MNREGA in rural areas. This step of the government will be important towards promoting financial inclusion and strengthening rural India.
