NEET PG 2025: The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has sought permission from the Supreme Court to extend the date of the NEET PG exam from June 15 to August 3, 2025. The board says that this change is being made as per the directions of the Supreme Court, which ordered to examine a single shift.
Not possible to examine a single shift on June 15
According to the NBE petition, the exam was scheduled to be held on June 15 from 9 am to 12:30 pm, but now it is proposed to conduct it on August 3 in a single shift. NBE informed that the availability of a sufficient number of examination centers was confirmed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), but it was not possible to examine a single shift on June 15, due to a lack of necessary infrastructure.
TCS informed in an email on June 2 that it would require more time to conduct it in one shift and August 3, 2025, was the earliest available date for the exam.
Exam centers will be required in more than 250 cities.
The NBE also informed that the exam will require exam centres in more than 250 cities and more than 1,000 centres will have to be booked and activated, which will require more time. Along with this, he also said that the postponement of the exam will have "various impacts" on the students and it will require a collective effort between the government and the NBE to provide support and help to the students in "this uncertain time".
The NBE also mentioned that apart from this, railway, several banks, and various state examinations are also going on. Therefore, NBE proposes to conduct the exam on August 3, 2025, in the first shift from 9 am to 12:30 pm.
The Supreme Court had on May 30 ordered that the NEET PG exam be conducted in only one shift on June 15. The court had observed that conducting the exam in two shifts may be "arbitrary" as the question papers of both shifts may not have the same difficulty level.
Following this, the NBE was directed to take necessary steps to ensure transparency and identification of safe exam centers.
