British pop star Jessie J has shared with fans the shocking news of her cancer diagnosis.

In a video posted on her Instagram handle, the singer revealed that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and announced that she will be stepping away from the spotlight temporarily to undergo surgery.

She revealed that she learned about the same after recently undergoing a series of medical tests. Though the news was difficult, she was glad she caught it early. “I was diagnosed with early breast cancer . I’m highlighting the word early,” Jessie said in the clip. “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word early.”

The singer, known for hits like Price Tag and Domino, used her trademark humour to lighten the tone in her caption, writing, “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’?”

She added, “All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times)… Your girl needs a hug.”

Jessie explained that she chose to go public with the news because she wanted to be transparent and believed sharing could offer comfort to others going through similar experiences. “It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much, similar and worse,” she said. “That’s the bit that kills me.”

The timing, she revealed, felt surreal—especially as she had just released a track called No Secret and was gearing up to perform Living My Best Life. “You can’t make it up,” she added. “It’s a weird topic and a weird situation.”

“It’s a very dramatic way to get a boob job,” she joked, adding that she would be undergoing surgery after her performance at the Summertime Ball on June 15. “I will come back with massive tits and more music,” she said.

Fans and fellow artists have since flooded her post with messages of support, applauding her courage and honesty, and wished her the best on her road to recovery.
