Suwasra (Madhya Pradesh): A heart-wrenching incident shook Suwasra town on Wednesday morning when a pack of stray dogs attacked and killed a four-year-old boy near Runija Road.
The victim, Ayush, son of Dashrath Das Bairagi, was playing outside the house of his maternal uncle, Kanhaiya Das Bairagi, with two other children when 8–10 stray dogs suddenly approached. While two children managed to flee, Ayush was encircled and mauled, and he suffered a fatal throat injury. He was rushed to the local community health centre but was declared dead.
Ayush had been living with his mother at his uncle’s house for the past six months. His post-mortem was conducted by Dr Snehil Jain, and the body was handed over to the family.
The incident occurred just 600 meters from Suwasra town limits, in Ganesh Magra, an area known for frequent stray dog attacks. Despite repeated complaints, the local municipal council has failed to take action.
Council chairman’s representative Dr Balaram Parihar dismissed the incident, citing jurisdictional limits, while CMO Sanjay Rathore announced a three-day dog-catching campaign starting Thursday.
Congress leader Mahesh Mandaliya criticised the inaction stating the council lacks the tools and will to prevent such tragedies.
