
New Delhi: The Punjab Kings captained by Shreyas Iyer narrowly lost the IPL 2025 final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs. Despite a large crowd at Ahmedabads Narendra Modi Stadium Punjab Kings were unable to reach the 191-run target set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Despite impressive performances of 97 and 87 runs in earlier IPL 2025 matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium Shreyas Iyers contribution to the final was limited to a single run off two balls. Punjab Kings fans had anticipated a stronger showing from him. Shreyas Iyer joins MS Dhoni as one of only two captains to have lost multiple IPL finals. Dhoni previously lost three finals with Chennai Super Kings and Iyers loss in the 2025 IPL final marks his second such defeat. In the IPL expensive player Shreyas Iyers teams Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings lost the 2020 and 2025 finals respectively. Shreyas is the only one to have lost in the IPL finals as captain of two different teams. In his first season as captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) after getting Rs 26.75 crore in the auction Shreyas Iyer achieved 604 runs in 17 matches.
