The two new entries for the third year of Michelin Guide in Vietnam are CieL and Coco Dining, both located in Ho Chi Minh City.

CieL Restaurant in Thao Dien area, home to the city’s largest expat hub, garners attention for its innovative culinary style, refined cooking techniques, and cozy dining atmosphere.

Coco Dining on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 3 stands out with its stylish dining space, where chef Vo Thanh Vuong introduces contemporary cuisine that blends traditional Vietnamese recipes with modern techniques. Previously, Coco Dining was featured on the Michelin Selected list.

Seven restaurants that maintained their one-star rating from last year are Hanoi’s Hibana by Koki, Gia, and Tam Vi, HCMC’s Anan Saigon, Long Trieu and Akuna, and Da Nang’s La Maison 1888.

“This year, we are proud to witness a rise in the number of starred restaurants, driven by a new generation of talented chefs. Many are returning to their roots, using modern techniques to tell stories of their hometowns and to revive childhood flavors,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides.

“For our inspectors, the journey of discovering new restaurants in Vietnam remains as exciting as ever. They have been inspired by the dedication, creativity, and pursuit of excellence shown by culinary professionals across the country – and they are eager to uncover even more gems in the years to come.”

At this year’s awards ceremony, Lamai Garden in Hanoi received the Michelin Green Star for its philosophy and commitment toward a more eco-friendly approach to gastronomy.

Chef Le Hong Viet from CieL won the Michelin Guide Young Chef Award while Paul Vo from Nephele restaurant in HCMC bagged the Michelin Guide Sommelier Award.

Nha Huynh from Man Moi, a restaurant in HCMC, was honored with the Michelin Guide Service Award.

According to the Michelin Guide, its inspectors assess venues based on five criteria: the personality of the chef as presented in the cuisine, the harmony of flavors, the mastery of cooking techniques, the quality of products, and the consistency both over time and across the entire menu.

In the Michelin system, one star signifies a very good restaurant, two stars mean excellent cooking that is worth a detour, and three stars mean exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey. According to the Michelin Guide website, there are over 3,000 Michelin-starred restaurants in nearly 40 different countries.
