Mumbai: The Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the ‘Thane Creek Bridge No. 3 South Channel’ on the Sion-Panvel Mahamarg, marking a major step forward in boosting connectivity between Mumbai and Pune. The virtual inauguration was held on Thursday. This new bridge is a significant addition to the Mumbai-Pune highway and stands as a milestone in modern engineering and infrastructure development.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Minister Dadaji Bhuse, MoS Meghna Bordikar, and other dignitaries. An audiovisual presentation was also showcased, offering insights into this landmark project and its role in easing traffic congestion on the busy corridor.
The six-lane bridge over the Vashi Creek connects Mankhurd to Navi Mumbai. The original bridge, built in 1994, has long faced pressure from increasing traffic volumes, causing major congestion near the Vashi toll plaza, as reported by Lokmat Times. Travellers can now expect a smoother, faster commute along this vital route.
To address this issue, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) built two new parallel bridges with three lanes each. While the bridge from Mankhurd to Vashi opened in October, the Vashi to Mankhurd bridge was only recently completed and officially opened to the public with this inauguration.
