YouTube Recently released its new update version 20.22.1, which has brought bad news for many old Apple devices. After this update, the YouTube app will now only work on the iOS 16 or above version. That is, the support of the YouTube app on the devices which have only up to 15 support, have now stopped completely.

Which iPhone and iPad users have been affected?

After this update, youtube app will no longer be installed or updated on the following devices:

iPhone models:

• iPhone 6s
• iPhone 6s Plus
• iPhone 7
• iPhone 7 Plus
• iPhone SE (First generation)
• iPod Touch (Seventh Generation)

iPad models:

• iPad air 2
• iPad Mini 4

All these devices cannot get an update of iOS 16 or iPados 16, which has now disqualified the latest version of YouTube.

Will watching YouTube now stop completely?

No. If you are using the above device, YouTube will not stop completely. You can still watch the video by going to M.Youtube.com through your device’s browser (eg Safari or Chrome). However, this experience will not be as smooth and interactive as the app.

Options in front of users

Users now have three options:

• Buying new iOS 16 supported device
• Access youtube via browser
• Continue to use the YouTube app of the old version (until)

This change is especially important for users who have been using old devices for a long time.
