Tatkal booking new rules 2025: Indian Railways will soon make e-Aadhaar authentication mandatory to prevent irregularities in Tatkal ticket booking and simplify the process. This rule will come into effect by the end of June 2025. This move is part of the central government's effort to ensure transparency and fairness in Tatkal booking.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently said that the Railways will soon start e-Aadhaar authentication for Tatkal ticket booking. He wrote in a post shared on social media, 'Indian Railways will soon start e-Aadhaar authentication for Tatkal ticket booking. This will give confirmed tickets to the right users at the time of need.'

The Tatkal scheme allows passengers to book tickets at the last minute. It has been criticized due to disturbances by touts and automated bots. According to officials, many fake agents break the rules using fake identities or automated software, making it difficult for real passengers to get Tatkal tickets.

How will it work?

To solve this problem, Indian Railways will make e-Aadhaar-based verification mandatory during Tatkal ticket booking. This rule will apply to both counter and IRCTC online booking. After its implementation, every Tatkal ticket booking will be digitally linked to a valid Aadhaar card.

Benefit to the right passengers.

To give priority to the right passengers, the new system will give priority to those users in the first 10 minutes of the Tatkal booking window who have linked their IRCTC account with Aadhaar. The special thing is that authorized IRCTC agents will not be allowed to book tickets during this initial time. Only Aadhaar-authenticated individual users will be able to book tickets in the first 10 minutes of the Tatkal booking window. IRCTC agents, who are often accused of bulk booking and reselling, will not be able to work in this initial window.

Ban on fake activities
This new rule has come after the internal audit of the Railways, in which large-scale irregularities were found. In the last six months, more than 2.5 crore user IDs have been canceled on suspicion of improper activities. About 20 lakh user accounts are still under investigation.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, who is leading the digital reforms in the Railways, said that the requirement of e-Aadhaar will increase transparency, reduce fake bookings, and make it easier for the right passengers to get tickets.
