BCCI's Response to Recent Tragedy
The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjeet Saikia, announced that the board will issue an advisory to prevent future incidents similar to the recent stampede in Bengaluru. This unfortunate event occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebration of IPL champions RCB, resulting in the loss of 11 lives. A large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of their favorite players when the chaos erupted.
Saikia believes that the tragedy was exacerbated by the hurried nature of the victory parade. He referenced the open bus victory parade held in Mumbai after the Indian cricket team's T20 World Cup win last year, which was meticulously planned by the BCCI, ensuring a smooth celebration.
In an interview with a media channel, Saikia stated that while the BCCI cannot control how teams celebrate after tournaments, it can take steps to prevent such incidents in the future by issuing advisories.
