In India, Allen Musk’s company Starlink has finally got the necessary license, so that the company will now be able to start its satellite based internet service soon. Starlink, who has been trying to start its service in India for a long time, has received this permission from the Ministry of Telecom.
Starlink, which is Alan Musk’s Spacex company’s satellite internet service, works to deliver sharp internet to far-flung areas of the world. This service could not be started in India yet because the company had not received the necessary license. But now this path has been cleared.

Starlink has become the third such company in India, which the government has given a license for satellite internet service. Earlier, Onweb and Reliance Jio have also got a similar license.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has described this service of Starlink as a new technology, which will be especially beneficial for areas where it is difficult to deliver internet connectivity. He said that satellite is a better way to give internet remote and network in far-flung areas as it is not possible to install wires or towers there.

Starlink will serve internet from a height of 500-550 km with the help of its small satellites. For the last few years, the company also started pre-booking in India, but it had to be stopped due to lack of license.
In India, Starlink will compete with Reliance Jio and Airtel’s Onweb service. However, recently Starlink has also announced a partnership with these two companies, especially for kits and hardware supply.
While the license has been received on one side, the blockage of satellite spectrum remains still. Discussions are still going on on the method of allocation of spectrum, as Jio and Airtel want it through auction, while Starlink wants to get it in an administrative manner.
The biggest of the benefits from Starlink is to deliver internet in remote areas where broadband or mobile network is barely found. But this service can also be expensive. Starlink plans can be expensive than common broadband in terms of buying kits and monthly fees.
It will be interesting to see when Starlink’s service starts in India and what effect it has on common users.
