Tokyo, Japan: A very relief news has come from Japan for the world struggling with plastic pollution. Japanese scientists have developed a new revolutionary plastic that dissolves in sea water in a few hours. This discovery is considered an important step towards environmental protection, which can relieve the seas from plastic waste in the coming time.

Plastic disappeared in an hour

The new plastic demo, developed by scientists at Riken Center for Emergent Matter Science and Tokyo University, was shown in a lab in Wako, where a small piece of plastic was completely dissolved in just an hour when putting in saltwater.

Better than traditional plastic, without poison

According to scientists, this plastic ends manifold compared to traditional biodegradable plastic. Not only this, it does not leave any poisonous or harmful remains, which completely eliminates the possibility of becoming microplastic.

Packaging industry can get a big benefit

Although the commercial use of this technology has not been announced yet, according to Takuzo Eida, the lead scientist of the project, “Many areas including the packaging industry have shown deep interest in this plastic.”

Effective

Eida says that this new material breaks down in about 200 hours even when exposed to salt in the ground, as well as exposure to the salt present in the ground. This plastic is non-toxic, non-flammable and also does not release carbon dioxide on burning or decomposing it.

Big step towards future plastic technology

This new material is as strong as traditional plastic and can be used with coating. Scientists are doing research at this time what can be the most effective way to coat it, so that its real use can be more simple and safe.
