New Delhi: Actor Tom Felton has confirmed his long-awaited return to the Wizarding World. It was revealed that the actor, who famously portrayed Draco Malfoy in the original Harry Potter film series, will be making his Broadway debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The news was shared by the actor during an appearance on the Today show, where he described the moment as “very much a pinch-me situation.”

Tom Felton to be a part of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Tom’s involvement marks the first time a principal cast member from the films will be seen on stage in the Cursed Child production. He is set to begin his 19-week run on November 11, 2025, with the play closing on March 22, 2026. The storyline takes place 19 years after the final Harry Potter instalment and follows the next generation of wizards navigating their own destinies at Hogwarts.

“It’s surreal,” Tom said, admitting that he became emotional during rehearsals. “I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.” He added, “I’m now the exact age Draco is in the play,” calling the experience a full-circle moment.

How are fans reacting to Tom Felton’s return?

Despite the fanfare, Tom’s return has ignited mixed reactions online. While many longtime Potterheads expressed joy—one fan wrote, “No one does Draco like Tom”—others weren’t as enthusiastic. Criticism ranged from aesthetic jabs (“He looks like Lucius now”) to concerns over rehashing the past (“Move on guys already pls”).

Still, support has also been voiced. “I hate the premise of the Cursed Child story and the fact that it exists, but I’ll watch it if Felton is in it,” one user posted. Another Slytherin fan added, “Wonderful to see you back in the HP universe. I hope you do your best as adult Draco.”

Broadway producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender welcomed Tom warmly, stating, “Tom’s return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Tom back ‘home’ but also into a new family: our Broadway company.”
