New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India will hear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025 petition for the announcement of the revised exam date by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) today, June 6, 2025.

The NBE has filed a plea to conduct the NEET PG 2025 exam on August 3, in response to the apex court’s decision to hold the exam in a single shift. The exam conducting authority has revised and proposed to hold the exam on August 3. It has urged the SC to conduct the hearing.

The NEET PG 2025 exam, which was earlier scheduled for June 15, has now been postponed. The NBEMS announced the delay after a Supreme Court directive asked for the exam to be held in a single shift to ensure fairness.

Why Was NEET PG 2025 Postponed?

The Supreme Court of India recently raised concerns about the exam being conducted in two different shifts, saying it leads to unfairness. The top court pointed out that question papers in two shifts can never be exactly equal in difficulty, which may affect the final results. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NK Anjaria observed, ‘Holding the exam in two shifts leads to arbitrariness and cannot give a level playing field. The examining body should have made arrangements for a single-shift exam.’

Because of this, the NBE has now been asked to rearrange the exam so that it can be held in one shift across the country, which needs additional preparation and coordination.

With the new exam date likely to be set for August 3, medical aspirants should continue their preparation and stay updated by regularly checking the official NBE website. The revised date will only be confirmed after the Supreme Court gives its approval.
