The depth of love and its reality
Love is a wonderful experience, which connects humans to the most soft and beautiful aspects of its existence. But have you ever thought that this love can sometimes take the form of slavery? Spiritual guru Osho has considered love not just a feeling, but an experience of a consciousness. He believes that when the feeling of ownership and control enters love, then it does not remain love, but becomes a slavery.
Love: A free flight or golden imprisonment?

According to Osho, true love is one that gives freedom to two persons, not each other’s slave. When the lover or partner starts asserting authority over each other, then love gradually takes the form of a gel. People think that taking control of someone is the depth of love, but Osho breaks this confusion. He says that if someone loves you, he will give you freedom to fly, not in a cage.
When love becomes a fear in place of safety
Osho makes it clear that many times people enter love so that they can get protection. They have a love affair in search of emotional, social and physical safety. But this is not love, but a kind of deal. As soon as a side is weak in this deal, the other side starts control. This is not love, but the beginning of slavery.
Love is contaminated by the spirit of authority
Osho says that “Where there is authority, there cannot be love. And where there is love, there is no place for authority.” It is often seen that people expect their partner to live only for them, only follow their gestures, and do not keep connect with anyone else. This thinking limits the relationship and holds the person’s soul. Love then does not remain a holy river, but becomes a dam which gradually starts to get up.
Is love sacrifice?
According to Osho, love is not renunciation, because ego is hidden even in renunciation. True love is what is given without any expectation. He neither asks for anything, nor wants anything in return. But when we expect a sense of revenge in love or fulfillment of our desires, then he takes the shape of a deal. And there is always some weak in the deal – that is the slavery of love.
Importance of freedom in relations
Osho believes that the foundation of any relationship should be laid on freedom. When two people love each other with complete freedom, then that love develops. If the love becomes a bond, then he distracts the person from the path of self-development. In love, it is important to understand that we are not the owners of anyone and neither is our slave.
Social system vs. love
The society has also shifted love like an institution. Love has been tied in the rules using words like marriage, loyalty, morality. Osho breaks this social structure and says that love is not an institution, but a flow. When love is made an institution, then the seeds of slavery are sown in it. Love is tied in the rules, love is not discipline, and the soul can never get peace from discipline.
How to get rid of love from slavery?
Osho says that if you want to experience true love, then first know yourself, come down within yourself. When you learn to love yourself, only then you can love someone else without expecting. Only when the inner emptiness ends, only then you are able to respect the freedom of another. Self -knowledge is the way that can turn the slavery of love into the liberation of love.
Osho’s message
Osho’s message is clear: Love is not the one who ties up, love is the one who frees. If there is no freedom in your love, it is only an emotional slavery. If love narrows you from within, makes you feel insecure, then it is not love – it is a fear. And where there is fear, there cannot be love. Osho’s thoughts give us learning that true love begins when we begin to accept ourselves, our existence. And when we accept someone with his complete existence – without expecting, without rights – then love, freedom from slavery, becomes a spiritual experience.
