Booking Tatkal tickets for railway passengers has become a big challenge every day. As soon as the booking window opens at 10 am, millions of users log in to the IRCTC website and mobile app. But the website hangs in a few seconds and in minutes all the seats go into waiting.
Dr. A. Walumani’s suggestion viral
Dr. A. Velumani has suggested a smart solution to this problem. He shared a post on social media in which IRCTC’s immediate booking process was sarcastically described as a “daily drama”.
What did Velumani say?
He wrote, “The seats are available by 9:59, the site hangs at 10:00 pm, all tickets are booked by 10:03 and at 10:04 the site is smooth again.”
Report disclosure: Passengers trouble big
According to the report of LocalSarkals, 73% of the 55,000 passengers from 396 districts went into waiting within 1 minute. 30% of people are now dependent on agents, while only 29% are able to book Tatkal tickets once a year.
Solution: Adoption to adopt slot system
Dr. Velumani says that as his company website handles traffic slowly, IRCTC should also divide the booking time into slots. Immediate booking of certain trains should be opened every hour from 6 am to 8 pm. This will not put heavy traffic pressure simultaneously and will avoid the website crash.
What will be the benefits?
- The website will not crash
- Users will get fair chance
- Tension free ticket booking
- Dependence on travel agent will be less
