The summer of Andrea Berta is here. It is taking its time to get going, but that does not mean things are not happening. Arsenal need it to be a big one and full of correct decisions.
This is obvious and is true of most teams, but with the pressure ramping up on Mikel Arteta to deliver silverware after progress, a minor rebuild is on the cards. Most of the pieces are already in place
It is just as much about adding quality in depth as it is strengthening the first team. Arteta's unwillingness to utilise his wider playing group has been a problem for Arsenal over three years and now it is over to Berta to try and give his new manager the sort of players who can make an immediate impact but also one over the course of a season.
With matches against Milan, Tottenham, and Newcastle United to come, it is a big few months for those trying to get themselves into Arteta's best XI. In the spotlight is the frontline. Here, football.london goes through the current options and what lies ahead in the coming months for each player.
Gabriel MartinelliStruggling for consistency on the left and hasn't looked like replicating his stellar 2022/23 season. Still remains first choice on that side but will surely have added competition when a new winger comes in.
Will start next season as a 24-year-old and needs to find his best levels to help kick on with Arteta again. A valuable member of the squad but can frustrate.

Bukayo SakaArsenal's star boy. Irreplaceable in the team but in desperate need of support. Ethan Nwaneri played on the right during Saka's injury last season but Arsenal are looking for natural widemen and rightly so.
Saka is front and centre of everything good about Arsenal. The club are working on a new contract to reward his excellence
Leandro TrossardThe utility man in attack. Trossard can play across the front three as well as in the No.10 role as well. He rarely makes an impact from the start but is still threatening from the bench.
Arsenal have a big call to make over his future, especially with a two-way winger being looked at.
Saudi Arabian clubs have shown an interest in the past and if the right offer was there, Arsenal would surely need to consider it. Trossard has been extremely useful at Arsenal and his availability should not be taken for granted.
Raheem SterlingArteta was unable to get Sterling back to his best or anywhere near the peak of his 2018 form.
Sterling hardly played any meaningful action for Arsenal and was reduced to being behind Kieran Tierney on left by the end of the season. It was worth a go but never looked like working out for anybody.

Enjoyed a good season before injury but it cannot be escaped that Arsenal miss the ice-cold killer of a striker which Havertz is not and has never been.
He will back himself to compete with whoever comes in. Being able to play in a deeper midfield role means he is not going to lose his place in the side for long, no matter what happens.
Havertz is adaptable and a good target man option for Arsenal to have. He has not had the support from senior and natural alternatives for much of his time and getting that this summer could be crucial.
Gabriel JesusCame into form just before injury but has really been far from his best for over 18 months. Jesus is not the No.9 that Arsenal need and would surely have been available this summer before being ruled out from January.
It is damning that even Mikel Merino looked more threatening for much of his interim stint as makeshift striker. Jesus' days in north London may well be coming to an end but Arsenal will find it hard to get anything done until he is back to full fitness.
New signingsThe winger (maybe Nico Williams) will replace Sterling, but more could be added. If Trossard was to go, or maybe even Jesus, then Arsenal would certainly need another.
Rafael Leao is a player of interest but Milan have always had a high asking price for him. Their lack of European football might change things slightly but Leao would also need to improve his defensive work significantly to become viable option under Arteta.
The real focus is on who comes in centrally. He is the raw but extremely high potential option for big money. RB Leipzig are said to want £92.5million for him, which is a massive investment.
Viktor Gyokeres is the alternative. He is proven and has a much larger goalscoring record. , though, and has done most of his work against poor opposition, bad goalkeeping, and with only middling underlying numbers - such as a relatively low box touch-to shot ratio.
Either way, there will be questions over Arsenal's striker next season. Arteta simply needs another body to help spread the load and take some weight off Saka.
Both would provide something different to the Arsenal attack but only at a huge cost.
