wasn't the sole creative force behind Phoenix Nights, and one of his co-stars was left seething over a perceived lack of recognition. The much-loved sitcom, which debuted in 2002 and ran for two series, was set in a working men's club in Bolton and quickly achieved cult status. Peter emerged as the standout star from the series, not only writing and directing episodes but also portraying three distinct characters who even shared screen time in the same scenes.

The narrative primarily revolved around Peter's character Brian Potter's efforts to turn the club into a thriving hotspot, despite dealing with unruly patrons and inept staff. Kay co-wrote the show alongside Neil Fitzmaurice and Dave Spikey, who portrayed DJ Ray Von and the club's compere Jerry St. Clair respectively. However, before a "feud" emerged one show star admitted a huge regret.

Daniel Kitson, who portrayed Spencer in the sitcom two decades ago, is believed to have regretted taking part in the show, according to Phoenix Nights Trivia.

The on-screen star is now a stand-up comedian who tours and performs extensively at festivals and theatres.

Once the show concluded, claims of a dispute between the show creators emerged.

Resentment brewed over the absence of a third series and disputes about who deserved credit for the show's success, leading to Dave and Peter not speaking for ten years before eventually reconciling, reports the Mirror.

Their rift was eventually healed when Peter contacted Dave about planning live shows of Phoenix Nights for Comic Relief in 2015.

Despite initial awkwardness, the experience turned into the "best two weeks of his life" and helped rekindle their close friendship.

Dave described the unexpected phone call from Peter: "Peter's call came like a bolt from the blue. It really knocked me sideways.

"We hadn't spoken for over ten years and it had been 12 years since we filmed the last Phoenix Nights. Life had moved on. I always hoped we'd get back together but the longer things went on, the less likely it was."
