Airport rule change: Don't carry these medicines in your handbag or risk getting stopped

Normally, passengers are allowed to carry essential items like medication in their cabin baggage. However, this will no longer be the case on flights bound for Dubai. Not all types of medicines are permitted. As per the new regulations, only approved medications and items will be allowed on board. So, if you are about to travel to Dubai, this is something crucial that you might need to know that could affect your travel planning.


What has changed?So far, passengers have been permitted to carry essential medicines and personal items in their cabin bags without much trouble. New rules specifically for passengers traveling to Dubai have changed the list of allowed items.

Items forbidden in cabin bags or checked in baggage

1. Narcotics and drugs

Cocaine, heroin, and opium

Dizziness medications and Poppy seeds

2. Food and wildlife products

Betel nut and certain herbs

Ivory or rhino horn products

Three-layer fishing nets

3. Books and artifacts

Oil paintings, photos ,books and certain types of printed works

Stone sculptures and religious artifacts


4. Other prohibited items

Counterfeit money

Self-prepared food

Things permitted with permission or feeCertain prohibited items can still be brought, provided the passenger has received advance permission or is prepared to pay the fee. These are:

Fertilizers and plants

Medical devices and certain medicines

Cosmetics and personal care items (limited amount)

Wireless communication tools

Alcoholic drinks, e-cigarettes, and electronic hookahs



Medicines under strict ban
Several prescription and over-the-counter medicines have now been blacklisted for carrying during air travel to Dubai. Below is a list of prohibited medicines:

Betamethadol

Alpha-methylfentanyl

Cannabis

Codoxime

Fentanyl

Poppy Straw Concentrate

Methadone

Oxycodone

Trimeperidine

Cathinone

Codeine

Amphetamine
