The owners of a semi-detached Victorian house have been praised for their "beautiful" renovation choices but one small detail has been criticised for ruining the overall vibe. is not for the faint of heart - it's expensive, it's messy and it's very time consuming.
Once it's complete, however, it's worth all the headaches and stress to have a beautiful, safe home that's been styled to your exact tastes and standards. Many homeowners choose to share their renovation journeys on , connecting with likeminded people going through the same thing, as well as interior design lovers living their renovation dreams vicariously through others.
One couple doing openly highlighting their experience is , who operate a small TikTok channel with a litany of videos showcasing their 1901 home's transformation.
When they first got the keys, the house was completely different though they have kept many of the original features - for example, the stylish Minton floor tiles in the hallway - while updating the house to make it more energy efficient and stylish yet still in keeping with the house's vintage aesthetic.
In a recent video, now that six rooms have been completed, the duo showed a full house tour. Captioning the footage, the creators penned: "Updated house tour! 6 rooms completed; 2 to go", before going on to list the paint brands and shades used throughout.
The calming colour palette of blues and neutrals ensures the downstairs space is bright, clean and welcoming.
There's many nods to the Victorian roots with ornate fireplaces and panelling, as well as modern pops with quirky slogan prints and other signage.
One sign in particular hasn't gone down well with some interior fans on TikTok, though. At the end of the kitchen, there's a handy water closet and, above the door, is a bold black and white sign which reads 'the shi**er'.
In the comments section beneath the video, one person penned: "Everything was absolutely perfect except the toilet door sign".
The original posters and homeowners replied: "Not everything is to everyone's taste! We love it".
Someone else said: "Your house is stunning I don't like that loo sign tho". One TikTok user was stunned to see so many people had an issue with the sign.
They commented: "People so pressed over a toilet sign".
Other TikTok users were fans of the humorous label above the toilet door. One person said: "Well done, it's beautiful, still laughing at the sign above the toilet door downstairs".
Other TikTok fans were impressed by the house as a whole. One person observed: "Beautiful home".
Someone else said: "Beautiful and very tasteful" while another fan commented: "What a fabulous transformation well done!"
Someone else added: "Absolutely beautiful! A renovation done sympathetically and well! Best I've seen!"
