Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced an increase in the compensation for the victims of the tragic stampede that occurred during the (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The incident claimed around 11 lives and left several others severely injured.
Siddaramaiah stated that the compensation for the families of the deceased will be raised from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh. He emphasised that the government stands with the affected families during this difficult time and assured that no family will endure hardships due to financial constraints.
“I have ordered that the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede be increased from ₹10 lakh to ₹25 lakh each. It is the hope of our government that the families who have lost their loved ones do not face further hardship due to financial problems,” wrote Siddaramaiah on X.
The Bengaluru stampede occurred on June 4 during the RCB’s victory celebrations, which were caused by a lack of proper communication and inefficient planning. What began as a joyous occasion quickly turned tragic due to poor crowd management and an inadequate police presence.
In the aftermath of public outrage, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda was suspended. The incident also triggered a shake-up within the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), with two top officials - Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer E.S. Jairam - submitting their resignations on June 7.
A day before the internal meeting, the case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). KSCA President Raghuram Bhat stated that while the association has not yet been contacted by the investigating authorities. He further stated that they are fully prepared to cooperate whenever required.
