A new chapter is going to be added to India's space history. After 41 years, Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will leave on Tuesday (June 10) morning on a journey to the International Space Station (ISS) under Axiom Space's Axiom-4 mission. This mission is being conducted in partnership with US space agency NASA and private company SpaceX.

Before leaving for the journey, Shubhanshu said, it is very fortunate to be a part of the mission. Shukla, who is known by the nickname 'Shax', will be the second Indian to travel to space. 41 years ago, his idol Rakesh Sharma flew into space in 1984 aboard the then Soviet Union's Soyuz spacecraft to stay in orbit for eight days. The spacecraft will be launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center at 6.12 am Indian time through SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. After its 28-hour journey, the spacecraft will connect with the space station at 10 pm (Indian time) on June 11.

Many experiments will be done during space travel.
Shubhanshu will do many special science and nutrition-related experiments during his 14-day stay in space. These experiments have been prepared by ISRO and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Government of India. Their purpose is to observe the germination process of fenugreek and moong in space, bring the seeds back to Earth by keeping them in microgravity (space conditions), and do further cultivation on them, develop nutrition and life-support systems for future long-duration space travel. Apart from this, Shukla will also do 5 joint studies with NASA.
