In the ever-evolving world of showbiz many films come and go. Some entertain us for a little while and before we know it vanish from our memory like thin air. With the overload of content on OTT and every Friday the attention span of the audience is short while the options are many. However in the middle of all this once in a while come some rare films that remain etched in our memories for years to come. Their strong storyline and characters resonate with the audience for years and are no less than a phenomenon. One such film is a cult classic that became a blockbuster hit; however what makes the story more interesting is that this films star cast wasnt exactly how the filmmaker initially imagined. Before hitting gold at the box office this blockbuster went through many casting reshuffles but eventually went to one whose fate was tied to it. The film we are talking about is none other than Darr. This film was made under a big banner and had a star-studded cast. It was directed by the most celebrated filmmaker Yash Chopra and it featured Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla in the lead with Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan as the villain. Released in 1993 this romantic psychological thriller was a super-duper hit and broke many records at the box earning with its huge collection. However before it went to the final star cast who made a huge contribution to the film. It was rejected by 3 actresses and 5 actors. Initially Yash Chopra approached Sridevi for the infamous Kirans role however she wanted some changes in the script which couldnt materialise. Then Madhuri Dixit was offered this film but she couldnt resonate with the script and later the offer when to Aishwarya Rai but she was busy preparing for the Miss World competition. Later Divya Bharti also declined the offer. Eventually the offer went to Juhi Chawla who ultimately signed the role. Similarly for Sunils role Yash Chopras initial choices were Rishi Kapoor Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff who refused the offer. Then finally Sunny Deol was signed for this film. Yash Chopra wanted Sanjay to play Shah Rukh Khans villain role but during that time he was going through the controversy of possessing illegal weapons after the Bombay Blasts. After this Ajay Devgan was offered this role but he refused and finally Shah Rukh Khan was signed for this role. After many rejections and challenges Shah Rukhs blockbuster film became the highest-grossing film of the year. It earned Rs. 21.3 crores at the box office and won many awards including the National Award for Best Popular Film. It has an IMDB rating of 7.6 and in available on Amazon.
