Lamine Yamal Walks Away From CR7 Trophy Lift:- Spanish attacking winger Lamine Yamal refused to clap as Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy after Portugal won the competition final over Spain.
At the end of the long-running competition, four teams survived to play in what is called the Nations League Finals. These four teams competed in two semi-finals to bring us to the real final. Portugal beat Germany 2-1 in the first semi-final, while Spain beat France 5-4 in a classic to book their ticket for the ultimate match.
After France defeated Germany in the third-place play-off, it was time for the final in Munich’s Allianz Arena. The action started relatively early, as Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi scored the opening goal of the game. A few minutes later, Nuno Mendes made the scores level. Right as the game was about to stop for half-time, Mikel Oyarzabal gave Spain a lead thanks to a solid assist by Pedri.

Ronaldo, who is clearly past his prime, to the point where many question whether he has a place on the national team. However, on this day, he scored a goal in the 61st minute. With scores level at full time, the match went into extra time, where no goal was scored, and we headed into penalties.
Portugal kicked first, and Goncalo Ramos scored. Mikel Merino then deposited the ball into the net for Spain. Vitinha stepped up next and delivered, and so did Alex Baena. Bruno Fernandes would then make it 3 in 3 for the Portuguese, and Isco would score the third Spanish penalty.
Goal scorer Nuno Mendes walked up to the mark next and rocketed the ball into the net. However, Spanish attacker and penalty specialist Alvaro Morata saw his shot be saved. Then, to take the all-important fifth Portugal penalty, Ruben Neves stepped up and scored as CR7 and his team won the UEFA Nations League for the second time.
The man who had a fairly average game was the 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. The Spanish attacker has had a stellar year and is a frontrunner in the race for the Ballon d’Or. However, with him not winning the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona, winning the UNL was crucial for his hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or. But not only did his team lose the final, but he had an ordinary outing today.

With his hopes of becoming the youngest Ballon d’Or winner taking a massive blow, to say Yamal did not tackle this loss lightly would be correct.
During Portugal’s celebration, as Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the Nations League trophy, all the Spanish players were standing to the side, some even clapping. But Lamine was not one of them, as he could be seen angrily making his way through his teammates back to the dressing room.

As stated before, this is Portugal’s second UEFA Nations League title win. They won the inaugural edition of this contest in 2019. To win the competition on two occasions out of the four times it has been held is impressive. The other two teams to have won this competition are Spain and France, who won in 2023 and 2021, respectively.
