Lungi Ngidi, South Africa’s savvy fast bowler, wants to make his dream a reality by bringing the World Test Championship trophy back home. This would be a big deal for cricket in South Africa, especially after years of not winning an ICC title. They’re set to face Australia in the WTC final on Wednesday, and it could be a sweet ending to all that struggle. Just last year, the team was so close but lost in the T20 World Cup final against India. Now, after seven wins in a row, they have one more chance at some silverware.
Ngidi expressed his feelings, saying, “Honestly, it’s hard to put into words. We’ve been close in various tournaments over the years. For me, this is the ultimate cricket format, and bringing it home would be a dream.” He added, “I don’t want to jinx it, but it would be amazing and could shift the focus back to Test cricket in South Africa.”
While players like Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen are getting a lot of attention, Ngidi has been quietly getting ready for the challenge ahead. “I’m feeling really prepared. It’s a dream for any cricketer to play at Lord’s. I’ve been lucky to have played there before, and it was a thrill with all the nerves and excitement,” he shared. “This time, I’m a lot calmer. There’s a big title at stake, but the great thing about Test cricket is that the process stays the same, and sticking to that keeps me relaxed as a player.”
