Train Berth Upgradation: There is a relief news for railway passengers. Ticket upgrade facility has been implemented in chair car also.
Director (Passenger Marketing) of Railway Board Sanjay Manocha has informed about the new rule by sending a letter to all the zonal railways on May 13. He has also instructed CRIS to make necessary changes in the software. Now if there is a ticket of chair car (second sitting) and there is a seat vacant in AC chair car, then it will be upgraded there itself. Not only this, the ticket of AC chair car can also be changed to executive class.
Under the new system, passengers will be able to travel in a higher class without any extra charge. Earlier, upgrades were only available up to third AC, but now tickets will be upgraded from sleeper to second AC, second sitting to AC chair car and chair car to executive class. Similarly, second AC class tickets can also be changed to first AC, if seats are available. This will make better use of empty seats, and passengers will also get better facilities.
Railway’s auto upgrade facility is in place since 2006: Indian Railways started the ticket upgrade facility in the year 2006. Under this, if a passenger’s sleeper class ticket is not confirmed and seats remain empty after the chart is prepared, then the ticket is automatically upgraded to third AC. Passengers do not have to pay any extra fee for this facility.
However, this benefit will be available only if the option of ‘auto upgrade’ is selected on the IRCTC website at the time of ticket booking. If the passenger does not select this option, his ticket will not be upgraded. If a passenger wants to cancel the ticket after the upgrade, they will get the same refund, which is decided according to the booking amount of the original class ticket. This facility allows passengers to travel in a better class at a lower cost.
