New Corridor Project of Banke Bihari Temple
Banke Bihari Temple: An important step has been taken for the famous Banke Bihari temple located in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. After getting approval from the Supreme Court, a survey of land around the temple premises has been started from Monday. With this survey, a corridor project costing Rs 500 crore is being considered.
Opposition to local people
However, the local residents and temple services are quite angry with this decision. They allege that through this project, the government is trying to end the traditional and religious system of the temple.
The purpose of the corridor scheme
What is the purpose of the corridor scheme?
Mathura District Magistrate CP Singh said that this scheme has been made to provide safe and systematic philosophy to the devotees. Officials say that the traditions inside the temple and the rights of services will not be waged, only external infrastructure will be developed.
Facilities in the corridor
The corridor will have these facilities
- Better arrangement of crowd control
- Clean drinking water
- toilet
- Comfort
- Medical facility
- Locker system
Opposition to services
Opposition to services and accusations against government
Gyanendra Kishore Goswami, the temple’s service, strongly opposed the project, saying, ‘This corridor and the proposed trust threatens the original identity and tradition of the temple. The government is adopting a dictatorial attitude and we are not being heard. He also said that no discussion or consent has been taken from the local people nor from the servants.
Reduction requirement
Why require a redivaleppment?
Two people were killed in a stampede during Janmashtami in 2022. Subsequently, the Allahabad High Court ordered in September 2023 that a corridor scheme should be prepared for mob management and security. On 15 May 2024, a bench of the Supreme Court has allowed the state government to acquire about five acres of land, which will be done from the temple funds.
