Internet Services Suspended Amid Rising Tensions
In Bhadrak, Odisha, internet services have been suspended in certain areas following unrest triggered by the death of an individual during a confrontation related to cattle smuggling, as reported by local police on Thursday.
According to Bhadrak Superintendent of Police, Manoj Rout, the suspension of internet access for 24 hours starting at 6 AM on Thursday was a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
To address the situation, the district administration has increased police presence in sensitive regions of Bhadrak.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared a compensation of ₹10 lakh and a job opportunity for a family member of the deceased, while also mandating stringent action against those responsible.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Santosh Parida from Kasati village, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night while receiving treatment at a private facility in Bhubaneswar.
Parida was reportedly assaulted by members of an opposing faction after he spoke out against cattle smuggling, as detailed in the FIR filed by his relatives.
