The Ministry of Railways has said that from July 1, 2025, only those users who have verified through Aadhaar will be able to book tickets under the 'Tatkal' scheme. In a circular dated June 10, 2025, the ministry informed all the zones that this decision has been taken 'to ensure that the benefits of the 'Tatkal' scheme reach the general users.'
The ministry said that from July 1, 2025, tickets under the 'Tatkal' scheme will be able to be booked through the website / app of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) only by those users who have verified through Aadhaar. After this, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will also be made mandatory for 'Tatkal' booking from July 15, 2025.
The circular states that 'Tatkal' tickets will be available for booking through computerized PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters / authorized agents of Indian Railways only after verification of the OTP generated by the system, which will be sent to the mobile number given by the users at the time of booking. This will also be implemented by July 15, 2025.
The circular also states that authorized ticketing agents of Indian Railways will not be allowed to book "Opening Day Tatkal" tickets during the first 30 minutes of opening of the 'Tatkal' booking window. Specifically, they will be prohibited from booking 'Tatkal' tickets for AC classes from 10 am to 10.30 am and for non-AC classes from 11 am to 11.30 am. The ministry has directed the Center for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC to make necessary modifications in the system and inform all zonal railways about these changes.
