
UPSC Prelims Results 2025: The Union Public Services Commission has declared the result of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025. Candidates who had applied for this exam and appeared in the preliminary examination can now check their results by visiting the official website upsc.gov.in.
The preliminary exam was held on 25th May.
UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 was conducted on 25th May at various examination centers across the country. If we talk about last year, out of 13.4 lakh candidates, only 14,627 candidates were able to clear the prelims. There was also a jump in the cut-off as compared to last year. In 2023, the cut-off for the general category was 75.41, which increased to 87.98 in 2024.
There are two papers in the prelims exam, in which Paper 2 is qualifying only. That is, the cut-off is decided only based on Paper 1 (General Studies).
UPSC Prelims Cut-Off: How much was the cutoff in previous years
The UPSC Prelims cut-off increased from 75.41 last year to 87.98. Last year the UPSC cut-off for prelims was the highest compared to previous years except 2022 and 2020. The cut-off marks will be prepared only based on UPSC Prelims Paper 1.
As per Rule-15 of the Civil Services Examination, 2020, Paper 2 was qualifying, in which 33% of marks have to be scored. The cut-off trends of the last five years for Paper 1 of the UPSC Preliminary Examination are given below.

Looking at the above table, it is known that the highest cutoff was in 2020, which was 92.51. Candidates are selected based on prelims, mains, and interviews. The final merit list is prepared based on mains and interviews.
How many posts will be recruited?
A total of 979 posts including IAS, IPS, and IFS will be recruited through the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025. This exam is for one of the most prestigious government jobs in the country and lakhs of candidates appear in it every year.

According to the UPSC calendar, the UPSC Civil Services Main Exam is scheduled to be held from 22 August to 26 August 2025. 979 vacancies will be filled in the services and departments of the Central Government through UPSC Civil Services 2025 exam. This includes the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).
