Enhanced Enforcement Against Illegal Mining

The Himachal Pradesh Police have ramped up their efforts to combat illegal mineral smuggling by conducting thorough inspections of vehicles transporting minerals throughout the state. Under the leadership of Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, the department has implemented stricter enforcement measures aimed at curbing the unlawful export of minerals.

Night Checkpoints Established

Superintendents of Police in Sirmaur, Una, and Nurpur have been directed to set up night checkpoints from 10 PM to 3 AM in areas known for illegal mining activities. Following these instructions, the Nurpur Police established checkpoints at five different locations, resulting in the confiscation of 24 vehicles carrying illegal mining materials. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the offenders.

Sirmaur Police Operations

In a similar initiative, the Sirmaur Police conducted inspections of dumpers operating from Haryana and Uttarakhand during the night of June 12-13, 2025, from 11:30 PM to 4:00 AM. Out of approximately 100-120 dumpers checked, 16 were seized for breaching mining and traffic regulations.

Checkpoints in Una

In Una, police set up checkpoints at four strategic locations: Polian–Jejo Road, Bathri–Garhshankar Road, Pandoga–Hoshiarpur Road, and Gagret–Hoshiarpur Road. A total of 17 vehicles were inspected, leading to the seizure of 13, including 11 registered in Punjab and two in Rajasthan. Violations included transporting minerals without the necessary X-form and overloading despite having permits.

Zero Tolerance Policy

The Himachal Pradesh Police have adopted a strict 'zero tolerance policy' towards illegal mining and encourage the public to report any such activities. This crackdown is part of a larger initiative to safeguard natural resources and prevent mineral smuggling. Authorities are committed to closely monitoring affected regions to ensure strict enforcement against violators.
