Mollywood actor Unni Mukundan has expressed his shock upon hearing about the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday (June 12). The actor revealed that the site of the tragedy is not far from where he once lived and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.


Unni Mukundan saddened by the Air India crash

Unni was born in Thrissur, Kerala, and grew up in Ahmedabad until the age of 24. He shared how deeply the news had saddened him and his friends. In an interaction with Manorama, Unni said, "I came to know the plane crash took place in Meghaninagar, ten kilometres away from Maninagar in Ahmedabad. Maninagar is where I lived for 24 years. Like Kerala, Gujarat is my favourite state. I spent my childhood and adolescence there. This news is causing immense grief in my heart. My school friends and I are in shock."


About the Air India crash
An Air India flight en route from Ahmedabad to London tragically crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The plane struck a government hospital hostel in Meghaninagar, and 265 people reportedly lost their lives.


Unni had earlier shared a social media post in the wake of the incident: “Heartbroken by the news of the Air India Ahmedabad–London flight crash. My heart goes out to the families who lost their loved ones. I can only imagine their grief, and I pray they find strength in their darkest of times. May every soul lost find their peace, and may those left behind feel the warmth of support and love around them.” (sic)

Actors Akshay Kumar and Vishnu Manchu cancelled the pre-release event of their upcoming film Kannappa on June 13, which was scheduled to take place in Indore. Salman Khan also cancelled his recent event amid the incident.
