Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday inaugurated new buildings of the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Vile Parle. They also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal’s (SVKM) upcoming educational complex at the same location.Speaking at the event, Fadnavis stressed the importance of skilled human capital, calling human resource development “the most valuable investment.” He said, “Industries do not follow capital; they follow talent. A quality, multi-skilled workforce is essential for research and innovation to thrive.”Highlighting Maharashtra’s plans for advancing education, he reiterated that a 250-acre ‘EduCity’ is being developed in Navi Mumbai in collaboration with the central government. International institutions including the University of Aberdeen, University of York, University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Istituto Europeo di Design were granted Letters of Intent (LoIs) on Saturday. “This will bring global learning to India, reduce costs, and lessen the need to go abroad,” he said.Fadnavis also noted Maharashtra’s transformation into a startup hub and said the government has created a dedicated fund to support new entrepreneurs. He added that a committee will be set up soon to review building height restrictions for educational institutions and that land would be identified for constructing a world-class stadium for students and youth.Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, calling the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 a “historic step toward India’s intellectual renaissance,” said it would undo the colonial legacy of Macaulay’s education system, which, he argued, stifled Indian knowledge traditions. “The freedom struggle was not just about independence—it was about reclaiming our educational ethos,” he said.Pradhan urged institutions like NMIMS to play a key role in the country’s economic sectors such as commerce, trade, and entrepreneurship. “Institutions like Narsee Monjee are symbols of a new, aspirational India,” he added. Addressing students directly, he said, “You are not just students; you are warriors of a new India.”Both ministers also toured the facilities, including automation and manufacturing labs, the Prof. Y.K. Bhushan Information and Knowledge Resource Centre, and digital and finance labs. They interacted with students and faculty, learning about ongoing innovations and academic initiatives.
