Delhi: Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have always been an example in the cricket world. Their partnership on the field was as magnificent, the friendship of both of them outside the field has been considered as strong. However, recently, former South African captain AB de Villiers revealed that the conversation between the two was closed for some time.
In fact, last year, when Kohli suddenly withdrawn the name from the domestic Test series against England, De Villiers inadvertently spoke about Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma’s second pregnancy during a live stream. Later De Villiers himself clarified that this statement was made by mistake.
However, earlier this month, the historic title of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was created by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by winning, and this happiness brought both veterans closer. After defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final, Kohli and De Villiers got emotional and hugged each other and forgetting the old bitterness and drowned in celebrations.
In a conversation with Cricket.com, De Villiers said, “I am happy that Virat has been talking to me again. For the last six months, we have made contact again between us, when I inadvertently made the news of his second child public, there was a short distance in our relationship. But, when he started talking to me again, he was a big relief for me.”
De Villiers gave his response even after Kohli retired from Test cricket recently. He said, “He was going through a difficult phase. He consulted me how I handled the difficult times of my career. His age, the burden of matches played, the politics of the team, all these are all mentally tired. I told him heartily what I feel looking at him on the screen. I am happy that he is still connected to cricket and his decision has come from heart. I support it.”
