Atlee, the celebrated filmmaker behind the Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster Jawanhas added another major achievement to his incredible year. The director was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the MGR Educational and Research Institute in Chennai in recognition of his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

During the university’s 33rd convocation ceremony, Atlee, whose full name is Arun Kumar, took the stage to accept the prestigious honor. In a humble and deeply emotional speech, he dedicated the award to his wife, Priya Atlee, whom he described as his ultimate pillar of support.

“She has been my backbone through everything,” he shared, crediting her for being the driving force behind his success. He spoke about how Priya’s unwavering belief in him has been a constant source of strength throughout his journey as a filmmaker. He also extended his heartfelt gratitude to his parents and in-laws for their endless support.

The honor comes on the heels of Atlee’s monumental success with Jawanwhich broke box office records nationwide and cemented his reputation as one of India’s most commercially successful directors. Before this pan-India hit, he was already a powerhouse in Tamil cinema, having directed a string of blockbusters including slaughtered, Mersaland Bigil.

This period marks a time of immense personal and professional joy for the director. Earlier this year, he and Priya welcomed their first child, a son named Meer. The doctorate serves as a capstone to a year filled with career-defining milestones and personal happiness, solidifying his status as a leading creative force in the Indian film industry.
