However, the AA has quashed the concerns, labelling it as a summer myth, reassuring drivers that there's minimal risk of fuel evaporating during this month.

An earlier announcement from the AA clarified: "Many people wrongly believe that petrol evaporates quickly in the summertime, and we're left out of pocket by their cars gradually leaking petrol fumes throughout the day."

The statement added: "If this was true, you'd walk through car parks and busy streets and smell nothing but petrol - which doesn't happen. Your car's petrol cap does a great job of keeping the petrol where it belongs. Inside your car."

Forecasts from the anticipate a steady rise in temperature over the week, prepping the UK for a sizzling start to June, reports .

London is poised for a sizzling 27C today and hit a scorching 30C on Thursday. The sweltering conditions look set to persist into the weekend, with another day of 30 degrees predicted for the capital come Saturday.

The AA has dismissed the idea that motorists receive "less petrol" if they fill up at certain times during the day. There's been speculation suggesting that in hot climates, petrol expands in the underground tanks at filling stations, leading drivers to get less bang for their buck.

This sparked a notion that fuelling up your petrol car in the morning, when temperatures are lower, might be thriftier on the pocket.

But the AA has come out firmly to declare there's "no need" for car owners to scramble out of bed at dawn to snag the best fuel deals.

The breakdown service has clarified: "Our verdict? False. The petrol is kept underground where the temperature is cooler and more stable, so you'll get the same amount of fuel when you fill up at any time of day (or night)."

So it looks like there's no justification for those bleary-eyed early morning fuel runs after all.
