According to the local police, the couple, identified as Sagar Suresh Karamalkar (32) and his wife Sushma (26), got married on May 20. They were on a tour to Amboli and returned only on Sunday.
Early Monday Sagar's friends called him but received no reply, police said. "When they went to meet him at his residence, they found the door open and a smell of gas emanating from the room where bodies of Sagar and his wife were lying," said a police officer.
Sagar's friends immediately informed the police, who called a forensic team to investigate the deaths.
A geyser gas leak, particularly one releasing carbon monoxide, is a serious safety hazard and can be fatal. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that displaces oxygen in the blood, leading to suffocation, police said.
